Statement in relation to the revised biodiversity duty

By 1 January 2024, all public authorities were required to consider what action they can take to further the conservation and enhancement of biodiversity in England after a revision to s.40 Natural Environment and Rural Communities Act 2006.

This is an important step all public authorities must take, so they can contribute to the actions needed to meet the legally binding target to halt the decline in species abundance in England by 2030.

The OEP has assessed what actions we can take in line with the guidance prepared by the Government, published in May 2023.

Today (2 January 2024) we share a summary of how the OEP intends to meet this duty. You can download the document by clicking on the blue button on this page.
