Accessibility statement for theOEP.org.uk

This accessibility statement applies to theOEP.org.uk, a website run by The Office for Environmental Protection (The OEP). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website, so you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts,
  • zoom up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen,
  • navigate to most of the website with a keyboard,
  • navigate to most of the website using speech recognition software, and
  • listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver).
  • We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

If you have a disability, AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use.

How accessible is our website?

We have tested our website in 2023 with people with a range of disabilities and using assistive technology and have found the site can be used without issue.

Disproportionate burden

Legacy PDFs and other documents have not been designed with accessibility in mind, please contact us if you require information in an alternative format. Since 2022 we have created HTML versions of documents and where this is not possible have made PDF documents as accessible as possible.

Content that’s not within the scope of accessibility regulations

We don’t plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from accessibility regulations.

How to report accessibility problems

The OEP is committed to making our website fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standard, but issues and bugs may arise.

If you find any problems not listed on this page, think we’re not meeting accessibility requirements or require information in a different format, please get in touch via phone, email or through the form on our Contact Us page. Please also see our Reasonable Adjustment Policy for further information.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) is responsible for enforcing the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2. Accessibility Regulations 2018 (the ‘accessibility regulations’). If you’re not happy with how we respond to your complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) or Equalities Commission for Northern Ireland (ECNI).
