Former Office for Environmental Protection Board member Professor Richard Macrory has been knighted in the Birthday Honours for services to environmental law.
OEP CEO Natalie Prosser said: “This honour is richly deserved. We would like to send heartfelt congratulations to Sir Richard, and thank him for his vital work to help establish the OEP and guide our early operations.”
Sir Richard has enjoyed a distinguished legal career and was a pioneer of environmental law. He is now
emeritus professor of environmental law at University College London, and served as a Board member of the Environment Agency in England and Wales between 1999 and 2004. He was a long standing member of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution, founding editor of the Journal of Environmental Law and first Chair of the UK Environmental Law Association.
He is the author of several books on environmental law including ‘Regulation Enforcement and Governance in Environmental Law’ and ‘Irresolute Clay – Shaping the Foundations of Modern Environmental Law’, as well as numerous articles on various aspects of environmental law.
